Let’s Talk, Connect, and Take Action: Great Big Green Week Comes to Leighton Buzzard
Every June, communities across the UK come together to celebrate and accelerate climate action as part of Great Big Green Week (the UK’s biggest call for action on climate and nature). This nationwide event is all about bringing people together through creativity, conversation, and collaboration to build a greener, fairer future. Leighton Buzzard is taking part for the third year running, with a jam packed list of events. We're excited to be a part of it!
Throughout June, the town will be buzzing with events, from clothes swaps and guided nature walks to eco-renovation talks and sustainable crafting sessions. You can find the full lineup below, but today, we wanted to share a little more about the three events we’re hosting at The Refill.
🌍 Climate Crisis Listening Café – Sunday 8 June, 2.30–4pm
Feeling overwhelmed by the climate crisis? You’re not alone. The Climate Crisis Listening Café is a gentle, supportive space to share thoughts, anxieties, and hopes about the climate and ecological emergency. Whether you're actively involved in sustainability work or simply feeling the weight of it all, this is a chance to speak honestly and be heard. No fixing, no pressure - just community, connection, and a hot drink.
It's free to attend but we have limited spaces to make sure the space isn't overwhelming. Please book your attendance here.
💬 Live Podcast: Growing a Sustainable Business – Tuesday 10 June, 7.30–9pm
We’re hosting a special live podcast recording at the shop featuring a panel of inspiring local women in business: Charlotte from Loved Before, Gill from Jam Jar Gill, and Heni from The Refill. Hosted by Laura from Leighton Buzzard Local, we’ll be talking honestly about what it really means to grow a sustainable business in 2025. From balancing values with growth, to staying energised when the going gets tough, this is a behind-the-scenes look at the reality of purpose-driven enterprise. Expect lively discussion and inspiriting stories with space for your questions too.
This is also free to attend. Please register here.
🖍 Zine-Making for a Greener, Kinder Future - Sunday 22 June | 2.00 - 4.30pm
Craft meets climate hope in this creative wellness workshop. We'll start with simple reflective journaling exercises to imagine a brighter, more sustainable future—then channel those visions into personal zines (mini-magazines) using recycled materials. It’s a space to play, reflect, and create something uplifting to share with others. No experience needed—just curiosity and a love for paper, glue, and positive imagination.
This is a ticket event with limited spaces. Tickets: £20. Book now.
Why You Should Get Involved
Great Big Green Week isn’t just about awareness—it’s about action and connection. Whether you come to one event or five, your presence helps build a stronger, greener community. It’s a moment to slow down, listen, and feel part of something hopeful. Because together, we can make change feel possible.
We hope to see you at one of our events—or around town during this amazing week of climate action.
